What starts out as convo I had on twitter earlier in the week about is Pun and Fat Joe left off folk's top 10 lists because they're latino turns into an all out look at race in hip hop. So for this week's ep of my podcast Apt. 5B with Ev, Jas, Gnu and Vern we're chopping it up about do we agree with Lord Jamar's comments about whites being guests in hip hop, do we look at MC's like the Beastie Boys, Em and 3rd Bass as white rappers or just rappers in general and do white folk get to be "inspired" by our music or is it biting no matter what? And ya'll know me & my squad, there's no way this convo doesn't spin into where does Rod Temperton (who produced for Heatwave, Michael Jackson, George Benson & other black folk ya'll love) fit into this equation as a white person who, dare I say gave a lot of black folk "their" sound? Which then spins into a debate between me & Ev about do producers give MC's and singers "their" sound? Best believe if you want a honest convo about about hip hop and race that's FAAAAAAAR from just being one sided, this is the ep for you!
