One of the things that I HATE about hip hop folklore is that Das EFX was a one hit wonder which to me nothing could be further from the truth. We all know about their 5 mic classic debut album "Dead Serious" but for some reason cats really slept on their sophomore album "Straight Up Sewaside" which to me is a strong 4 mic album. Now I won't hold you, there weren't any beats that REALLY stood out on there but lyrically? Lyrically Skoob & Drayz straight up and down showed their ass on "Sewaside." They dropped the whole "diggedy" style that everybody & their moms had bit and were straight up rhyming but for some reason...nobody was paying attention. Their third album "Hold It Down" was another strong 4 mic outing that to me could've been 5 mics if they trimmed some of the fat (they had 18 songs, if they cut that down to the 12 dopest, it's 5 mics IMO) but I felt like folk fronted on that album too. So at the end of the day, you've got a rack of heads (not just casual listeners but heads) thinking that these two dudes were just one hit wonders and I get it but at the same time...I don't. But no matter what side of the tracks you're on with Das, best believe you'll bang out & reminisce on those "good ole days" of hip hop with my "No Diggedy" mixtape. Salute.
