A 5 mic rating in 2011 with no payola involved?!?!? Told ya'll this is a DOPE album...

Philly-bred, Maryland-based producer Kil who’s known for his soulful sound is back with a new instrumental album based on the HBO drama series The Wire. “Trough the Wire” fuses vocal snippets from the show with Kil’s hard beats, now time for the review.
1.Rules of the Game (Omar’s Coming) (4.5 out of 5 Very Good)
Nice instrumental with an orchestral vibe. I’m feeling the gangstarr, BDK and Biggie samples.
2.He Ain’t Man Enough to Come Down to the Streets (4.5 out of 5 Very Good)
This one’s more rock influenced with dope guitars, strings and hard drums. Dope switch ups.
3.I Can Get You Guns (4.5 out of 5 Very Good)
Nice use of Gangstarr and Nas samples. Very solid guitar-driven beat with a deep bassline.
4.No Need For You To Stand Tall (4.5 out of 5 Very Good)
That gun sound hurt my ears! The vocal sample and strings are superb.
5.What Happens If We Buck (Powder) (5 out of 5 Classic)
I first heard that sample on Richie Cunning’s “Night Train” LP, awesome wind instruments and effects.
6.Money Be Green (Greenbacks) (4 out of 5 Good)
I like the energetic drums and horns but it gets a bit too repetitive after a while.
7.Dewalt Cordless (interlude) (4.5 out of 5 Very Good)
Feeling the melancholic guitar sample, hilarious vocal snippet.
8.No Rules for Dope Fiends (Inhale) (4.5 out of 5 Very Good)
I like the ATCQ sample and the keys.
9.Tool Up (Dangerous) (5 out of 5 Classic)
One of the strongest efforts on the LP: awesome mysterious strings.
10.The Big Fat Morning Show (interlude) (4.5 out of 5 Very Good)
The drums are banging on this one, the guitars are not bad either.
11.The Edgar Allan Poe House (Right Now) (5 out of 5 Classic)
Aw man this one’s addictive, phat metallic drums and bass.
12.Count Be Wrong (Grind) (5 out of 5 Classic)
Classic string/horn sample previously used by Preemo but Kil flipped it really well.
13.Find Your Tongue (interlude) (4 out of 5 Good)
A solid laid-back beat with nice drums and keys.
14.Zombie Master (Just You) (4.5 out of 5 Very Good)
I’m not a huge fan of those sped up vocal samples but the soulfulness of the strings is quite pleasant.
15.Save My Soul (interlude) (5 out of 5 Classic)
Sublime strings, a nice way to finish the LP.
Conclusion: classic instrumental album! It was like I was transported into the rough streets of Baltimore. I recommend the album to fans of the show and real Hip Hop. Kil kindly included 7 bonus tracks (dope stuff as usual).
Final Score: 5 out of 5
